Kel
Tarbanassen Firhoun was the first brindled Azawakh I had ever seen.
Completely fascinated, I decided immediately that I had to have a
brindled daughter of this impressive and striking male.

I
was drawn immediately to the eight week old Zaket at Mrs. Aigeldinger;s
kennel (Al Hara's) in November 1992. I had to look
very closely to identify her as a brindle as she was less
intensely brindled than her sire. But of course I found this
"open" brindling very beautiful as well and in 1994 when the
FCI Azawakh standard was amended to include the brindled coat pattern
her very successful show career began.

Zaket
was officially licensed for oval track racing in 1994.
Although she clearly preferred lure coursing, she always
competed with great self assurance, usually finishing near
the top, and was never disqualified.. I was quite proud
when she received the Racing/Performance Certificate (LU)
of the DWZRV. |

Zaket
whelped Tombouktou´s N-litter (4 males and 3 females, all
brindled) in July
of 1997. This litter was the realization of a long held
dream to breed Zaket to a desert bred male. I chose Amanar (also
brindled!), the male I had imported from Mali the previous year.
Actually my main reason for making my first trip to Africa was
to find a male for Zaket. Several
Azawakh from this litter have been used for breeding (by me as
well as other breeders), making Zaket the grand-dam of 27
Azawakh. |

Even at
more than eleven years of age Zaket was still very much the
matriarch of my all female pack, if in her own very quiet and
firm way. She is still in excellent physical condition,
self-assured and friendly. Because of her relaxed nature,
she is almost always off-leash on our daily walks. |
